F. A. Q. s
The following page has been developed to answer the questions that I am often asked about my lures. If you have more questions about our lures that are not answered below, feel free to drop me an email from our contact page. Thank you for your interest in Imposter Lures
Paul Lambrix - owner Imposter Lures
Q. What makes your lures different than all the other spoons on the market?
A. Imposter lures are designed for, and with the help of, Charter boat Captains. Professional fishermen, who make a living on the water, and demand performance from all of the tackle they use . The shape of our lure is computer generated from real bait fish. and precision lazer cut, then coated with an antioxidizer. The color patterns are fish like, and are on both sides just like real fish. Imposter lures are pulled in a forward swimming manner, most trolling spoons seem to be pulled backwards, THE SKINNY PART IS THE TAIL !
Q. What is the body made of?
A. 6061 Aircraft Aluminum, .090 thick is used because it is strong enough to hold its shape, and is very light and durable.
Q. Why are your lure patterns all tape, and not painted?
A. We use only tape for our patterns, because we feel it gives our lures a life-like appearence of a fishes skin, that we just can not get from paint. WE believe the closer WE get to the real thing, the better YOU will do !
Q. How tough is the tape, and will it stay on?
A. The tape we use is specially made just for fishing lures right here in Michigan by Witchcraft Tape Products. We use a special process we developed to insure the tape stays in place. Then we apply 2 coats of tough sealer, and back them up with a 3 year replacement warranty. We have lures in the field, on several Charter boats, which have caught over 100 fish on 1 lure in a single season, and the lure still looks great, a few teeth marks that’s it!
Q. Why do you use only OWNER treble hooks?
A. We use only OWNER treble hooks, because after testing ALL of the top brands of treble hooks, we feel Owner treble hooks are the sharpest and strongest treble hooks available and give our Charter Captains the performance they demand.
Q, Why are your hooks so big, and won’t they scare the fish?
Based on extensive hook research, we believe our hook size (diameter) should be as close to the width of the body as possible. If the hook size (diameter) is too small the body of the lure would block the hook points, resulting in lost fish. Years of underwater camera research has shown us that Salmon & Trout seem to be keyed in on the tail . Many of the strikes we observed, the fish would seek out and bite only the hook to try and stop the lure . We believe that we want the fish to see the hook, because the fish beleives the hook is the tail, and commonly attack their PREY in this manor.
Q. Why does Imposter Lures not make as many colors as other lure companys?
A We believe Imposter Lures are a professional grade lure. All of our color patterns are chosen based on their performance, (i. e. puting fish in the boat). This performance is measured thru research, testing, and feedback from Charter Boat Captains, and fishermen that use our lures. New color patterns are constantly being added as they prove themselves on the water.
Q. What is that wire eye in the front of the lure for, and is it strong enough?
A. That is a special pull eye, it gives our lures their severly wounded bait fish action, and yes, we have done extensive testing on the design and have found it to be very strong and durable.
